Colours and contrasts / workshop for teachers
Workshop with artist Alice Nikitinova for art teachers from elementary, middle and high schools.
- Date
- 22 November 2024
Come and be inspired how to consciously work with colour, how to use knowledge of colour theory in practice and how to effectively use contrasts of colours and shapes. Our main source of inspiration will be the theory of Johannes Itten, a teacher and artist associated with the now legendary Bauhaus school of art. During the workshop, we will look at his approaches and show practical examples. Together we will try out various exercises and creative practices. Artist Alice Nikitin, the workshop leader, will also present her artistic and pedagogical practice. The workshop is an ideal opportunity for all teachers who want to enrich their teaching with new impulses, techniques and approaches transferable to practice and teaching in primary, secondary and primary schools.

The painter of Ukrainian-Czech origin Alice Nikitinová (* 1979) moved to Prague from Kiev in 1998 to study at the Prague Academy, where she studied painting (studio of Jiří Sopek). Nikitinová speaks of still "feeling at home on the train", although she is now an established and award-winning painter and works at the Academy of Fine Arts as the head of the Drawing Studio. When the war in Ukraine began, many local artists and art school students found a home at AVU. Nikitina worked with them to create the comic book "When It Began," which was published in June of this year. She also led a consultation group for prospective students from Ukraine. She delves into political issues more out of a need to respond to the current situation, her work is otherwise essentially painterly and at the same time grounded in everyday reality. She is interested in ordinary everyday objects and situations, which she sets in an abstract world of shapes and colours. This is also reflected in the children's books she began creating after the birth of her son (At Home, Outside). Alice Nikitinová is a prominent and respected painter of the middle generation, she has completed a number of internships and residencies abroad and was a finalist for the Jindřich Chalupecký Award in 2010.Alice Nikitinová in SVIT galleryInstagram (@alisa_pojechali)
