Every year the AVU Grant Department organises two internal grant competitions – the Creative Grant Competition for Students and Faculty, and the Student Research Grant Competition. The first supports the creation and public presentation of artworks, while the second aims to support university research carried out by students, especially PhD students. A separate competition that supports publishing is announced every year by the AVU Publishing House.

As well as academics, students in the upper years of a Master’s programme and PhD students can apply for grants. Students in the lower years of a Master’s programme can participate in projects as members of the implementation team. The AVU Grant Department will provide applicants in internal grant competitions methodological and administrative assistance in the form of written and personal consultation.

The department searches for current artistic and research grant competitions organised by state and private institutions and foundations, and regularly informs faculty of its search results. This means that students and employees can avail themselves of other forms of financing offered by, for instance, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, Prague City Council, a specific metropolitan district of Prague, the Foundation for Contemporary Art, the Hlávka Foundation, etc.

The department participates in the creation of AVU’s grant strategy in relation to art, science, research and development, contributes to the formulation of the centralised developmental projects of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT) in accordance with the Academy’s core objectives, and oversees the preparation of development projects within the framework of the Operational Programme Research, Development and Education (OP RDE).

In order that the artistic, academic and research activities of the Academy continue to flourish, the department is open to ideas for current calls from studios, research centres and specialised divisions, which are then discussed by the AVU management. The department offers researchers administrative support during the preparation of project applications, implementation and completion. The department maintains a register of all projects financed from grants of which AVU is a beneficiary.
