Drawing Differently
This course is intended for those who want to discover drawing as a way of thinking and a means of exploring the world and themselves, to “get into the flow of drawing,” and to overcome creative blocks. We will explore techniques and ways of thinking through drawing, as well as approaches that often extend beyond its traditional boundaries, borrowing from the psychology of perception, applied improvisation, performance, feminist theories, art history, and movement photography. It does not matter whether you draw regularly or are only just considering giving it a try. What matters is a willingness to explore and to give drawing your attentive presence.
As part of the course, we will also approach drawing as a process-based activity and as a tool for visual thinking, perception, and self-expression. It will become a means of exploring different viewpoints and perspectives, scales, movement, speed, slowness, presence, as well as that which does not yet have a form.
The course will also include short theoretical excursions into topics related to individual lessons, which may serve as a source of inspiration for participants. The course further includes several sketching sessions with performers and dancers, sessions taking place outside the studio, regular collective and individual reflections, and a joint presentation of works at the end of the course.
