About the lecturer
Radim Langer (born 1985, Zlín, Czech Republic) is a painter, writer and educator. He studied at the Secondary School of Arts and Crafts in Brno before continuing his education at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), where he worked across both applied and fine art studios. He completed an internship in a painting studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, undertook study placements in Portugal and New Mexico (USA), and received his PhD from UMPRUM. He lives and works between the Czech Republic and Italy.
His practice is centred on contemporary abstract painting. He explores the relationships between light, colour, matter and space, developing the painting as an open structure in which the experiences of the body, landscape and perception intersect. His process is based on layering, transformation and the search for the internal relationships that shape the image. His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad. He is the author of the novel Manuály (Revolver Revue, 2016).
At the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, he teaches drawing and painting from the live model as a means of developing close observation and a deeper understanding of the human body. His teaching draws upon an interest in anatomy, medicine and the internal structures of living organisms, connecting them with artistic thinking about form, movement, light and space. He places particular emphasis on an individual approach, sustained attention and the development of each student’s own way of seeing.
