The exhibition uses found materials on the Czech social network Rajce for sharing photos. As observers, the artists teeter on the edge of childlike playfulness and seriousness, seeking connections to their own artistic practice.

“There is nothing more human than drawing a smiley face on a wall before the wall is painted over. There is nothing more human than watching a cloud and noticing each of its shapes before it dissipates.
Rajče.net is the Czech Republic’s largest website for sharing photographs and videos. Most of the content on Rajče is publicly accessible, and you can find everything here – from ten-year-old albums of a stranger’s graduation party all the way to someone’s holiday pebble collection.
Most of the photographs and albums on Rajče are not made with any artistic intent. They are unforced and earnest, made for private purposes, in order to preserve memories, to showcase an obscure hobby, or to share photographs from one’s travels or other interesting moments with Rajče’s other users. These characteristics are also the images’ greatest quality.
Titles such as “just for fun…,” “an attempt at…,” “boredom,” and similar serve as direct parallels to banality in life, which often hides the most interesting things.
As the title suggests, it is the exhibition’s goal to present some of the pearls we have found, three times inspected and put on display. By offering them a space in which to speak (or remain silent) for themselves or within the context of other pearls, we have given them a chance to fulfill their potential.”
