A classic bird’s nest is built gradually from various found elements, both natural and artificial, which are woven together until a refuge is created. Queernest thus embodies the theme of inner courage and the contrast between a sense of safety and the threat of danger. We are seeking a way to create a nest where one can feel safe, join forces, embrace change, and reevaluate.
Through our site-specific exhibition, we would like to share various practices through which we explore things that retain their value for us even in the face of change. How do we create a safe environment in the face of danger? How do we ensure stability in a changing world? What are the true values in a present-day world full of dystopia? The individual artworks contain raw, personal accounts of life at the brink of civilisation. They approach reality from various perspectives and offer different ways of working with these realities.
We value community and life within it. We learn from cyclical natural processes. We believe that art is life. Through our creative work, we therefore seek to identify and articulate the qualities that help us strengthen our resilience in today’s world. We find resilience in the playful interweaving and layering of our artistic practices. The specific spaces of Veleslavín Castle will become, within the framework of our exhibition, a nest, a temporary autonomous zone, a place for encounters, discussions, experiences, sharing, and dreaming.
