MgA. Jimena Mendoza
Jimena Mendoza (Mexico City, 1979) lives and works in Prague. She develops her work in a variety of media and often approaches design and craft techniques. These experiences allow her to combine seemingly very different elements. Jimena Mendoza has long been interested in tracing the traces of objects’ origins, their iconography, cultural and anthropological aspects. In her latest project, she explores the wearing of traditional costumes as well as resistance.
Jimena Mendoza studied sculpture at ENPEG La Esmeralda in Mexico City and Art-Space at L’Ècole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs ENSAD in Paris. Later, she graduated from the Visual-Arts Master’s program at UMPRUM in Prague. She has received grants from the Fondo para la Cultura y las Artes FONCA (MX), the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic and Fundación Colección Jumex (MX). Since 2022 she is supported by a grant from Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (MX).
Since 2019, she has been teaching with Tomáš Hlavina in the Sculpture 2 Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts and also lectures within the Erasmus Team Project at UMPRUM. She is co-organizing Keep in Touch – International Porcelain Symposium in Dubí, FUD UJEP.
