Doc. PhDr. Viktor Kubík, PhD, studied art history at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague (1991–1998), where he continued his doctoral studies (1998–2006). He received his habilitation at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (doc. 2021). Since 1995 he has been teaching art history, since 1996 at the Film School in Písek, since 2003 (until now) at the Institute of History of Christian Art, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. Since 2016 he has been teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He specializes in the relations between medieval painting in Bohemia and Italy, the development of book painting and has long been following the topic of ornament. He is also interested in historiography and methodology of art history. He publishes regularly, especially in Manuscript Studies, anthologies and catalogues of exhibitions of old art (e.g. The Royal Marriage (2010), Benedictines in the Heart of Europe 800-1300 (2014), Gothic in North Bohemia (2015), The Sceptre and the Crown: Charles IV and the Czech Royal Coronations (2016). He has participated in various research projects (GAČR, NAKI), and has written several popularization works on monuments in Prague and monographs: e.g. Italian manuscripts (1200–1330) (Halama, Prague 2008) or The Bible of the Tábor governor Philip of Paderov and book painting of the Hussite period (NLN, Prague 2018).
