The programme includes lectures on philosophy and aesthetics, as well as English, physical education, anatomy, an introduction to geometry and perspective, media theory, Digilab courses, graphics, special chemical, technological, and legal topics for restorers, Christian iconography, and the history and theory of architecture. The core modules for individual spheres are accompanied by optional core seminars addressing both current and historical topics.

The department regularly organises cultural sightseeing tours in the Czech Republic and abroad. An integral part of these trips are regular visits to the DOCUMENTA contemporary art exhibition in Kassel and the Venice Biennale.

Members of the department teach core modules (P), optional core modules (PV), and optional modules (V). An overview of the curricula for individual subjects and a more detailed description of their contents is available on the AVU website.

The department also runs a diploma seminar in the form of individual consultation regarding the theoretical parts of the course, and is the guarantor of the state final examination in the history of art and architecture, which is the first stage of the viva voce or oral examination (defence) and takes place in the fifth year of the complete Master’s programme and the second year of the postgraduate Master’s programme.
