The basic collection comprises more than 62,000 volumes (with an annual increase of approximately 750 books and 60 journals). Specialist staff oversee the operations of the historical reading room, catalogue, research and advisory services, and access to the databases and the interlibrary loan service. The library has internet, Wi-Fi, two printers and a paper cutter. It is also the guarantor of Artstor, an image database of almost three million artefacts from galleries and museums around the world in HD quality with the relevant copyright, which is free to use for research and educational purposes on all AVU computers.
The Library offers a loan service for documents, books and journals from its collections. Titles found in the library’s online catalogue can be reserved by emailing tomas.sluka@avu.cz, specifying the date and time by which they should be ready for collection. Once the reservation has been confirmed, the documents can be collected from the reading room at the agreed time.
JSTOR - is a digital library for researchers, lecturers and students, providing access to collections of key academic journals in the humanities and social sciences. Users can search full texts, titles, author details and abstracts on the computers available at AVU, or browse journals by title and subject area.
The database also includes the Artstor Digital Library – the world’s largest image database in the field of art. Most of the world’s major museums, photographic archives, galleries and artists have made their collections available in digital form via this repository, which features a very straightforward search function.
