He is a sculptor and teacher. His education and creative beginnings come from the Slovak context and since 2003 he has been active on the Czech art scene. In his artistic work he pursues strategies that change the usual perception of the image. Shifts of the frame, manipulation of information, breaking down the perspective, confusing the observer are meant to awaken an active view of reality in the audience. The author is interested in when, where and why we once look at things and events around us as ‘images’ carrying meaning and, conversely, when we just experience them in a disinterested way.He has participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions at renowned domestic and international institutions such as the Kunstlerhaus in Vienna, Donumenta in Regensburg, and the Biennale of Photography in Liége, Belgium.Since 2015 he has been a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. His work combines purely material and almost sculptural object and installation art with conceptual gestures. In his earlier works, he was already able to interestingly combine his spatial installations with video, as can be seen, for example, in his work 300 000 000 years (1999). A long-standing theme of his work is the confrontation of sculptural objects with the text materialized in them. The tension created by this combination of the object, the artifact grasped by the artist, and its resemblance to the appearance of a semantic message in the form of a text, plays with that classical duality of perception between the object and its commentary.www.dusanzahoransky.com
