doc. ak. mal. Tomáš Hlavina, Ph.D.

Tomáš Hlavina has been the head of the Sculpture 2 studio at the Academy of Fine Arts since 2016 (2016–2018 pedagogical collaboration with Anna Hulačová, since 2019 collaboration with Jimena Mendoza) He graduated from the Milan Knížák Studio of Intermedia Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1992), and then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tbilisi. In 2013–2017 he studied for a PhD at the Academy of Fine Arts (M. Knížák, M. Dopitová). Since 1990, when he started exhibiting, he has participated in more than one hundred and forty Czech and international exhibitions, for example at SITE Santa Fe in the USA (2006), Museé d’Art Moderne Saint-Etienne (2004), Artists Space in New York (2003), Museum of Modern Art – MuseumsQuartier in Vienna (2001), Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona (2000), Ludwig Museum in Budapest (2000), Ludwig Forum in Aachen (1993), DOX Centre for Contemporary Art (2009) and Prague Biennale 2 (2005). He works mainly with his own spatial creation of sculptures, objects or installations. Since 1997 his work has been supported by numerous grants and creative fellowships abroad. In 1999, 2000 and 2001 Tomáš Hlavina was a finalist for the J. Chalupecký Award. His work has been purchased for the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna, the Ludwig Forum Aachen and the National Gallery in Prague.
