She is a sculptor and teacher. She has been active on the Czech art scene since 2007. She has had a number of solo exhibitions, for example at Pump House Gallery in London, the Prague City Gallery and Fait Gallery. She has participated in a number of group exhibitions, for example at the Rudolfinum Gallery in Prague, Forum Stadtpark in Graz, or Astrup Fearnely Museet in Oslo. She has realized several sculpture projects in public space (Prague, Ostrava, Litomyšl). Since 2015 she has been teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. She is interested in sculpture and its potential to express and share themes embedded in individual experience. She believes that work often initiates encounters. Fundamental to her creative work are those that are a link or representation of issues of a more general nature. She analyses these encounters and tries to arrive at a sign that might initiate new encounters. She sees the capture and sharing of oppressive and difficult to grasp moments from everyday life, but which are symptomatic of a wider social circle, as one of the means by which to contribute to the cultivation of a society-wide debate. It explores the possibilities of drawing the viewer into the work not only through shared experiences, but also through physical interaction with the work. The viewer sometimes becomes a literal agent of the objects. His involvement brings the sculptural shortcut back to the individual experience. She is also interested in sculpture in relation to the specifics of a given space, and not only on a gallery scale. She is interested in public space and its potential for developing a self-conscious and empathetic form of freedom.www.pavlascerankova.com
