New Media Studio I is a place where joint work leads to a closer definition of the very term “new media” and to a search for its current content. The outputs are works ranging across a broad spectrum, from electronic imagery through sound, video, film, photography, performance, text, spatial installations and computer games. Both contemporary technology and more traditional means of expression are utilised as media. However, there is always a striving to find new solutions, both in form and content.

The New Media Studio 1 is a space where, through collaborative work, the very concept of ‘new media’ is refined and its current meaning explored.
Through mutual dialogue, the sharing of texts, discussions with external guests, visits to domestic and international institutions involved in the art world, but above all through our own practical work and its presentation both on and off campus, we gradually achieve compelling and defensible results in the field of visual art.
The outputs are works ranging across a broad spectrum, from electronic imagery through sound, video, film, photography, performance, text, spatial installations and computer games. Both contemporary technology and more traditional means of expression are utilised as media. However, there is always a striving to find new solutions, both in form and content.
A prerequisite for studying in the New Media Studio 1 is a good understanding of the field, an openness to new ideas and technological solutions, and a desire to work and to convey a message through one’s work.
Throughout their studies, students are guided, in particular, towards continuous work on their own projects and active participation in the art scene. At the same time, however, they are encouraged to broaden their theoretical knowledge and their ability to articulate the foundations of their own work, as well as to develop a greater awareness of the socio-cultural field. All this is done with a constant awareness of the presence of the language of art and poetry.
The ideal profile of a graduate of the New Media Studio 1 is a self-assured individual who is critical of the present day and capable of publicly presenting work of high quality in both form and content within the broadest possible sphere of visual culture.
The doctoral programme within the studio serves as a platform for a type of artistic research that deepens our understanding of the world through the language of visual art, on both theoretical and practical levels.
The New Media Studio 1 is equipped with the basic facilities required for work on projects involving the capture or generation of images and sound, as well as work with computer and projection technology. The studio also includes a small technical workshop.
The NM1 Studio also manages a sound studio serving the entire Academy of Fine Arts, where a wide range of audio projects can be produced to a professional standard.
