GAVU (AVU Gallery)

Starting in autumn 2024, the AVU Gallery will be relocated to new premises at Veletržní 61-63, as part of the AVU Veletržní building. The gallery focuses on presenting contemporary artworks by students, graduates, alumni, and faculty of the AVU through exhibitions and accompanying programs. International exhibitions are regularly organised as part of  various collaborations with other art schools abroad. An open call for exhibition projects is held annually, with selections made by the Exhibition Committee, which is appointed by the Rector for a two-year term. GAVU aims to showcase contemporary art approaches and themes within a broader context through its gallery operations. From 2024, GAVU will also feature a large-scale screening program dedicated to moving image, presented under the name GAVU Cinema.

The AVU Gallery was founded in 1993 as an exhibition space for students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Previously, it was located in the main building of AVU, and from 2021 to 2024, it operated under the name POP-UP AVU Gallery in Žižkov. At the gallery, books from the AVU publishing house (NAVU) are available for purchase.

GAVU Cinema

The regular screenings feature curated selections, festival highlights, collaborations with Artyčok.TV and other related organizations, as well as films and videos by AVU students and graduates. The platform is dedicated to education, fostering discussion, and providing an overview of current creative approaches in contemporary moving image and video art.
